THE FIVE STEPS OF YOUR SKIN CARE RITUAL  

You have just received your monthly Skin Regimen Detox Facial and are loving your clear, dewy skin. So how do you maintain that healthy glow between services? Begin a skin care home ritual. To ensure your skin looks its best, I recommend following these five steps each morning and four each evening. In this post I will explain how to best care for your gorgeous skin.

Use your morning and evening skin care ritual to practice self-love and acceptance by repeating a self-validating mantra such as “I love and accept myself just as I am.” “My skin is clear and flawless .” “I am enough.” “I am beautiful!” “I love my skin.” These positive phrases manifest the skin you want and how you want to feel in your skin. Breathe deeply and connect to your senses as you proceed though each step. Whether you realize it or not, you give of your energy all day long. This is your time for you to recharge with self care. You deserve to feel beautiful.

 

Cleanse

The first step of your routine is cleansing your skin. Cleanser removes dirt, dust, excess oil and makeup, leaving a barrier-free surface for your skin cells to soak in your yummy products. Cleanse in the morning and at night with warm water.  Use upward circular motions along cheeks, chin, forehead, around your nose and eyes. Remove eye makeup separately with eye makeup remover on a damp cotton round.  For heavy makeup days, cleanse twice in the evening. Remove cleanser with tepid water and a soft shammy.

Tone

The second step to healthy, happy skin is toning. Toners are hydrating for the skin and should include the ingredient hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid carries 1,000 times its weight in water. Use a toner morning and at night to maintain hydration in and around the skin cells. This will slow down the aging process, protect the barrier of the skin from moisture loss and speed tissue healing. Dispense product into the palm of your hand then press into skin.

Treat

Now that your skin is sparkling with hydrating molecules, it’s ready for treatment serum. Serums are highly concentrated and contain active ingredients. Address a specific need with this step; aging, dryness, dehydration, acne, inflammation. Use a small amount either on a targeted spot or all over your face, depending on your problem area.  Serums will treat your skin and improve the effectiveness of your moisturizer. Serums are used morning and at night, but you may want to use different products depending on your specific needs. If you layer your serums, apply liquid serums closest to skin, cream serums on top.

Moisturize

Once your serum has set, apply your moisturizer. Moisturizer seals in your product and adds lipids to the skin’s barrier. This reinforces the cellular membrane and prevents moisture loss. Moisturizer should be used morning and evening. I recommend using either less product or a lighter moisturizer in the morning. Apply a dime size amount on the side of the hand. Using your finger, dab product onto each facial quadrant; forehead, cheeks, chin and nose. Begin to massage moisturizer into your skin with the fingertips. Then, press into skin with hands. Use any excess on neck, chest and hands.

Protect

Your final step in your morning routine is the most important and oft forgotten. Sunscreen! Sun is the leading cause of aging in the skin and is easily guarded against by applying sunscreen daily. Even for the days you mostly spend indoors, you will want a layer of protection. You are exposed to damaging rays when you are driving, near windows and outside – even if only for a few minutes. For daily protection, use a primer with mineral sunscreen and a tinted mineral foundation. On the days I plan on soaking up rays for longer periods of time, I apply full spectrum sunscreen once in the morning and then reapply every two hours I’m in the sun.
